Cordless White Faux Wood Room Darkening Full-view Standard Horizontal Blinds :
1.9 out of 5.0
Pressure mounts are generally better than the tension mounts when it comes to faux wooden blinds. However, when it comes to Lowes Cordless White Faux Wood Room Darkening Full-view Standard Horizontal Blinds , they use tension mounts. They don’t come with the required hardware either. Better get them installed by a professional as they are not that easy to install by yourself.
Installation is a pain:
The instructions say you can install them without any tools, but this simply isn’t true. Even if you have a drill, you’ll need to purchase some extra hardware. Mine didn’t come with any of the brackets or screws needed to hold the blinds up. This is a big hassle.
The instructions also say you can install them without drilling, but this isn’t true for the tension mounts. You do need to drill a hole for the tension mounts to work and you need to drill a couple of holes in the wall for dowels, but you don’t really need a drill if you have a decent sized Philips screw driver and include that in your tool kit.
Design Flexibility can be an issue:
The instructions also claim you can use these blinds with a track or on the wall, but this isn’t true. You can use them on the wall, but there is no provision for attaching to a track. This is a bit of a pain because they would mount to the track easily.
Blinds are only as effective as the quality of their slats:
As I opened and closed them, I noticed that they don’t move smoothly and that some of the slats aren’t attached quite right, so they don’t close flush with each other. This is a big inconvenience because the blinds look kind of cheap. The slats themselves are great and there is minimal light leakage, but it’s just not possible to get them perfectly closed without some adjustment.
Just as nice as real wood blinds:
I tested the cordless white faux wood room darkening horizontal shades with dimming switches and they were just as effective as any other type of blind. However, you may find that you still need to open them occasionally so you can see through them.
This is unfortunate because I would have liked to use these in my bedroom during the night and on weekends when I needed to see outside or watch TV at night with dimmed lights on.
These blinds are a bit pricey and they don’t offer the quality or functionality that real wood blinds would. However, you can’t beat their price. If you are looking for a cheap option to get some window treatments, these darkening shades from Lowes might be a viable option, but don’t expect this to be as good as the real thing. Furthermore, with their poor construction and installation issues, I wouldn’t recommend these for serious use.
